May 5th 2010 - General Dynamics Demonstrates Key Special Operations Technologies at SOFEX 2010 in Jordan
General Dynamics Corp. (NYSE: GD) will put on a show of strength at the Special Operations Forces Exhibition (SOFEX) in Jordan this year, displaying key technologies and services that help special operations forces and other customers meet their operational requirements. Offerings from General Dynamics United Kingdom, General Dynamics Information Technology and General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems will all be on display at the special operations and homeland security exhibition, which opens 10 May.
General Dynamics UK
General Dynamics UK will showcase several capabilities that will deliver advantage to Special Forces in the region as well as address Homeland Security requirements. These capabilities include a debut and demonstration of its Dismounted Soldier System, showcasing its Network Enabled Communications (NEC) and C4I solutions; a focus on its Armoured Fighting Vehicle (AFV) design, engineering, integration and refit expertise; and demonstrations of its Security and Resilience solutions for the regions’ homeland security requirements.
Dismounted Soldier System debut shows leading C4I technology capability
From its heritage as a leading provider of C4ISTAR capability to armed forces around the world, General Dynamics UK is well placed to understand the needs of the soldier on the ground. In addition to showcasing the latest capabilities available for its C4I battlefield communications systems such as Bowman, the company will debut and demonstrate its Dismounted Soldier System which brings the next generation of the all-informed C4I network to the soldier on the ground. General Dynamics UK’s Dismounted Soldier System will deliver cutting-edge situational awareness and networked communications in a flexible, lightweight yet rugged format which boasts a simple, easy-to-use soldier interface and is easily adaptable to multiple mission roles.
General Dynamics UK will also showcase C4I systems integration technology that has made it the partner of choice for several armed forces wishing to digitise their communications from command-level to the soldier on the ground, including British, Dutch, Romanian and Libyan forces. General Dynamics UK delivers bespoke solutions that meet differing levels of customer communications capability requirements, from land-based divisional capability up to force-wide multi-platform capability as well as maritime vessel and aircraft integration.
Leading Armoured Fighting Vehicle technology
Recently selected to provide the British Army’s next generation of Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFV), known as Specialist Vehicle or SV, General Dynamics UK will showcase the design, engineering and integration of the latest AFV technologies. Specific capabilities highlighted by the company in this area include:
- A unique Electronic Architecture (EA) system, which delivers the benefits of weight reduction, increased space and easy plug-and-play power management for vehicles;
- Industry-leading systems integration and vehicle refit expertise based on integrating over 13,000 new and legacy vehicles for the British Army. General Dynamics UK has refitted vehicles for the Dutch, Romanian and Libyan Armed Forces including legacy vehicles such as the T-72 and T-92 tanks and BMP armored vehicles.
Security and Resilience solutions
General Dynamics UK will also showcase a number of its technologies and capabilities that provide security and resilience in the event of security emergencies, manmade or natural disasters, including Critical National Infrastructure protection, futuristic Urban Intelligence technology and Deployable Infrastructure systems for civil and military forces.

General Dynamics Information Technology will showcase a range of state-of-the-art training and simulation products and solutions that can strengthen special operations forces’ capability to deliver successful missions. The capabilities demonstrated will include:
Digital Range Training System (DRTS): An automated, digital, multipurpose range that meets individual, combined and collective training, enhances live range training, and can be integrated into other training solutions, such as Military Operations on Urban Terrain (MOUT) and force-on-force training.
Instrumented Range Scalable Systems (IRSS): Scalable, multi-purpose digital instrumentation that enhances live range training.
Live, Virtual, Constructive Gaming (LVCG) Integration: LVCG expands the training battlespace by creating immersive, highly realistic virtual environments for every level of training, while reducing cost and delivering soldier readiness.
Preparation, Response, Recovery & Collaboration (PR2C) Toolkit™: PR2C Toolkit is a unique and powerful situational awareness tool designed to aid emergency management officials, first responders and other agencies in responding to natural and manmade disasters. Its dynamic, geospatially correct visualization tool enables users to selectively display critical infrastructure and key resources, live GPS location of first responders and electronic data feeds (cameras, weather stations, etc) adding a resource management capability that allow users to make timely and effective data-driven decisions.
Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Training: General Dynamics Information Technology designs and delivers UAS training programs for any system, any platform and any mission based on its Stand Alone Training System (STS).
Urban Operations Training Systems (UOTS): Integrated training systems that replicate real-life urban battlefield environments give special forces a real edge in their training, something that the Jordanian Special Forces have benefited from since the delivery of an instrumented MOUT for the King Abdullah II Special Forces Training Center (KASOTC).
