June 3rd 2010 - General Dynamics showcases global capabilities at Eurosatory 2010
Paris is the place to see what the latest generation of armoured fighting vehicles (AFV) from General Dynamics Corp. (NYSE: GD) offers as it showcases several models in Hall 5 of Eurosatory from 14-18 June this year. General Dynamics European Land Systems will unveil Piranha V, the latest generation of the eight-wheeled Piranha family on Stand P108, while across the aisle on Stand S120 visitors will benefit from an in-depth briefing about General Dynamics UK’s ASCOD SV, the UK MoD’s preferred bid for the Scout SV programme.
General Dynamics UK will also be demonstrating its other capabilities including platform integration and upgrade, C4I communications systems, urban intelligence technology, deployable infrastructures, avionics and Air NEC, plus its Security & Resilience solutions. Other General Dynamics business units present on Stand 120 will include General Dynamics C4 Systems and General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems.
General Dynamics European Land Systems
The launch of the latest member of the Piranha family of armoured wheeled vehicles, Piranha V, will be celebrated during the official unveiling ceremony on the General Dynamics European Land Systems stand (P108) on Tuesday, June 15, 2010. This advanced new vehicle will raise the benchmark in the areas of survivability, mobility and firepower, marking unprecedented progress in the development of armoured wheeled vehicles.
General Dynamics European Land Systems will also unveil the light tactical vehicle Eagle, which features a higher payload capacity to carry more equipment or heavier protection solutions, depending on the customer’s requirements.
General Dynamics UK
Visitors to General Dynamics UK on Stand S120 will benefit from in-depth briefings on ASCOD SV, the vehicle chosen by the UK’s Ministry of Defence as its preferred vehicle to fulfil the Scout SV role. Members of the project team will be on hand to explain the vehicle’s advantages, including its ability to immediately deliver load-carrying growth potential of up to 42 tonnes thanks to a modern, proven drivetrain, thereby offering the protection to meet future threats likely to appear over its entire 30 year life.
General Dynamics UK will also showcase its other AFV design, engineering and integration capabilities including:
- Its unique Electronic Architecture (EA) system, which delivers the benefits of weight reduction, increased space and easy plug-and-play power management for vehicles;
- Its industry-leading systems integration and vehicle refit expertise based on integrating over 13,000 new and legacy vehicles for the British Army. General Dynamics UK has refitted vehicles for the Dutch, Romanian and Libyan Armed Forces including legacy vehicles such as the T-72 and T-92 tanks and BMP armoured vehicles.
Leading C4I technology capability
General Dynamics UK will also showcase the latest capabilities available for its C4I battlefield communications systems such as Bowman, and its Dismounted Soldier System which brings the next generation of the all-informed C4I network to the soldier on the ground. General Dynamics UK’s Dismounted Soldier System will deliver cutting-edge situational awareness and networked communications in a flexible, lightweight yet rugged format which boasts a simple, easy-to-use soldier interface and is easily adaptable to multiple mission roles.
General Dynamics UK delivers bespoke communications solutions that meet differing levels of customer requirements, from land-based divisional to force-wide multi-platform capability, as well as maritime vessel and aircraft integration, and has successfully worked with numerous armed forces around the world.
Deployable Infrastructure DROPS into Paris
Demonstrating how mobile its deployable infrastructures really are, General Dynamics UK will also display ISOPS, its highly regarded persistence surveillance unit that provides high performance surveillance, target acquisition and communications capabilities in-theatre, as well as showcasing its Blood Medical Storage Facility, 14 of which have been already been ordered by the UK’s MoD for frontline medical emergency support.
General Dynamics UK leads the deployable infrastructure market with a range of bespoke units that provide everything any military or civil customer could need, from accommodation, medical blocks and ablution units, to IT server systems, power generation units, command and communication posts, and perimeter protection, to name but a few solutions.
Security and Resilience
General Dynamics UK will also showcase a number of its Security and Resilience technologies and capabilities that provide Critical National Infrastructure protection, and its futuristic Urban Intelligence technology, VESPer.
VESPer provides rapidly scalable geo-referenced 3D mapping of any area from a single building to an entire city block to provide virtual reality images and scans which will help military and security forces to plan missions in built up areas, better deal with siege situations and plan public event security, for example. VESPer specialists will be on hand on the General Dynamics UK stand to explain this ground-breaking technology in detail, whilst the company’s Security & Resilience experts will be present to explain how best to secure critical national infrastructure.
General Dynamics C4 Systems
General Dynamics C4 Systems will be displaying radios from the Joint Tactical Radio System Handheld, Manpack, Small Form Fit (JTRS HMS) program, as well as the HOOK2® Combat Search and Rescue radio system at Eurosatory this year. These radio systems are designed using software-defined radio technology and serve a broad range of military applications.
General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems
General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems will be represented at Eurosatory this year by Axsys Technologies, one of the world’s leading designers and manufacturers of high-performance electro-optical infrared camera systems. Axsys Technologiesfully stabilized thermal imaging systems provide superior targeting and imaging capabilities, while offering proven reliability with minimum down time and lower total cost of ownership.
In addition, General Dynamics Mediaware, a key supplier of mature standards compliant commercial products and technologies for the advanced processing, exploitation and dissemination of ISR Full Motion Video (FMV) and metadata, will demonstrate its capabilities being including its flagship Digital Video Exploitation system (D-VEX) and STANAG compliant video and metadata viewer Mission Monitor.
